AKC # HM 932838-08
born Nov 26, 2000
CERF: BJ 1253/2005-58
breeders: Susan Patterson & Jennifer Dusky
co-owners: Susan Patterson
& Kevin Brothers
Now at home with & co-owned by Junior Handler Miss Tia Smith of Bellevue, Washington
Avanti was our pick puppy back from the breeding of her
gorgeous mama, "Sadie", and Mr Most Handsome EVER, Aatu.
She inherited her mother's ultra-feminine physique but her
daddy's "Aatitude" - she arrived at Calypso with the belief
that she was Queen! Half-sister, Aero (Calypso Z'Aire
Express) quickly was tasked w/putting her little sister in
her proper place and keeping her there!
Avanti seems to have inherited grandpa Tux's 'born to be a
show dog' personality. I never really had to train her - I
showed her once what I wanted of her and have never practiced
with her again. We can just put a show collar & lead on her and
walk into the ring. She will never put a foot down wrong,
holds herself proudly, has a fabulous gait, and is
completely unimpressed by whatever chaos is going on around
her at shows. She is Herself - it's up to the judge to like her or not
- she is utterly professional and I never
have to worry about her having an 'off' day.
Avanti
has finished her championship and will have her eyes CERF'd and her
hips OFA'd. She is offered to a serious Junior Showmanship home. Avanti
already puts herself down well enough that a Junior can work on
developing his/her own techniques. Avanti travels very well and enjoys
everything about "Shows". We decided that she is on the small
side for our breeding program right now and so wanted to give her a
chance to continue to shine in a way that is so pleasurable to her
rather than having her just sitting home here, becoming " a
number" in the crowd. She will make a great pet and dear companion. She
is a total princess and it takes her about two seconds to get new
friends to fall all over themselves to do her bidding!
Avanti is outgoing and friendly with everyone, loves men
especially, of course. She has the oddest quirk: at home in
the outside kennel runs, she will rarely poop or pee
anywhere but ON TOP OF A DOG HOUSE OR IN A CHAIR !!!
Needless to say, this causes much consternation among the
clean-up crew. I cannot begin to fathom what goes on in
that mind! She is also an escape artist and has managed to
squeeze herself through an opening the size of a mouse. I
swear, she can flatten & compress her body!
Avanti's pedigree is a lovely blending of our favorite
doggy guys and gals: Aatu on the top, and Tux and former
USA #1 basenji, "Macho Man" and our own beloved American
Express on the bottom. This is a professional (as in 'show
dog') pedigree if ever there was one!
She is a very special little gal, 16x16 inches, light-boned
just as the Standard requires. I'd like better feet,
certainly, and some more rear angulation, but I'm not going to complain
much about the
entire package. With all the plainly marked dogs & bitches
at Calypso, Avanti with all her 'frosting' is our little
fancy dresser, and we love her to pieces.
Avanti
is now the primary show dog of AKC Junior Showmanship competitor Miss
Tia Smith of Bellevue, Washington. Tia also participates in 4-H in
dogsport activities, and has the career ambition of becoming a
veterinarian some day. After living with and competing with a basenji,
I'm sure she will be able to handle anything! We're delighted
that our "Tay-Tay" is able to join a home where princess pampering and
dog show weekends are such a focus. She loves shows and everything
related to them, so it is wonderful to have found her a home where her
new mistress has the same joys. We hope to be adding their weekend wins
to our NEWS page !
