Annie is another of our Rhett (Ch Calypso American Gigolo)
daughters, out of a daughter of Cruz, his litter sister, so
she is the product of a tight line breeding. Annie got her
sire's size, 17" x 17", so she is an inch above Standard for
a bitch. She is not petite by any means, and so looked
actually bigger than she measured. She needed her majors to
finish when we pulled her from competition for maternity
duty.
Annie was bred to
Multi-Ch. Terrarust Calypso Black Tie and
produced a fabulous litter. It was the first breeding for
the two of them, and so I allowed the litter to mostly head
to pet homes despite the preponderance of show pups, fully
planning on repeating this and reversing the sale
parameters. It was a 3 color litter (black/white pups, a
tri, and red/whites), and all inherited Grandpa Rhett/Daddy
Tux/Mama Annie's rockhard toplines, and beautiful heads. sigh... like
all plans that can and DO go awry.... we
finally repeated the breeding in Fall 2002 only to discover
that -HORROR OF HORRORS- Tux was now sterile. I cannot even
begin to describe my remorse at the ramifications to our
breeding program due to this new reality.
The first and only
breeding of Annie and Tux put two
bitches 'out there' for show and breeding: black/white 'XI'
(home here at Calypso) and tri-colored 'RORY' (in DeKalb,MO
at LACADA basenjis with Larry, Carol & Dallas Hunt - though a
health crisis brought Rory back to us, and now she lives insouthern
Indiana). Rory
is nearly a duplicate of Annie, only 16 x 16 inches in size. Since we
still co-own her,
it is planned for her to come back to Calypso for a litter after
finishing her championship in 2005.
In Xi, we got Tux's
trademark duplication of his dam,
ECLIPSE, with the square, Standard-sized body and classic
wedge head, and sweet-sweet temperament. Xi has a
mischievous quality all her own, however. We look forward
to her carrying on for both her parents in our breeding
plans for the near future.
In the spring of 2004, Annie was adopted by Calypso owner Dawn Fritts
of Covington, VA, joining Calypso Weekend Warrior ("Gunny") in this
home with an unusual 'claim to fame': Dawn is one of the few female
Rail Road Engineers AND Conductors in the USA. She works for CSX out of
the Covington yard, and ever since she joined the Calypso family we
have been priviliged to become privy to Dawn's railroading stories.
Gunny would like everyone to know that he is the better looking litter
brother to the family's famous Agility titlist, "Cody", and a
card-carrying member of the Anti-Furrball (cats) Society. He has been
somewhat disappointed that Annie has shown no negative reaction to
Dawn's cats, and is even making friends with the one cat that fancies
itself a dog! As Gunny is a prolific (!) correspondent, I know I
will continue to hear more about this state of affairs, but it sure
seems that Annie has found herself a wonderful and interesting home in
which to retire!
