***Xi bred 2005 to Ch. Calypso Kilimanjaro_no pups.
***Xi bred fall 2004 to Ch. Calypso Draken Dreamer:
1 male bl/wh
pup who became Ch. Calypso Jon Bon Jovi
Xi is our precious Tux/Annie daughter. That litter produced
such beautiful and wonderful basenjis, but I had so many
pet reservations that I let them go to the pet homes, blythely assuming
I
would repeat this breeding later... Tux's unexpected
sterility changed all that, and Xi is the only
representative we have here of that very special union. Both
Tux and Annie are progeny of Ch. Calypso American Gigolo,
"Rhett". His superb temperament, gorgeous deep coat
color, and hard topline are attributes I strive to pass on
through breedings of his offspring, and of theirs.
Xi is a Stardard bitch,
by measurement: 16in. x 16in. She
resembles basenji females of the 1950's and '60's in that
she is very short-coupled. She has a shiny black, luxurious
coat, tight tail curl and exquisite wedge head with hooded
ears. I can preserve much of the breed's original looks
through this little gal.
Xi's temperament is above
reproach. Sweet and loving and
fun-seeking, she is Sunshine and Happiness dressed for
success. She is laughingly called 'the black pumpkin' when
she eats a little too well, and this happens most often at
shows were Little Miss Flirt is able to charm bait and
treats from EVERYONE. We laugh about not sending food on
the road with her because of all she is able to beg from
her admirers.
Xi wasn't much interested
in showing until we shipped her
down to Florida where she stayed with professional handler,BJ Barnhart,
and her
boyfriend George, who introduced her to the best thing about
dog shows: they are FUN! she played with all their Danes,
Dobes, Boxers and Rotties, and somehow came home convinced
that at shows, everyone is there to meet HER!!! Shows just
thrill her to pieces now, and we are thrilled to pieces FOR
her! Such a transformation, I cannot tell you!
We look forward to Xi
passing on her sweetness, charm,
and good looks to her own puppies soon. She comes from impeccable
breeding - a 'blue
blood' basenji all the way. She could be arrogant about her
roots, but she is not. She is a friend to the world, and we
hope to continue showing her to it! We do hope that we
will fulfill our plan on having her follow in Daddy Tux's
footsteps, and gain her FCI championship in international
shows. She will have a fabulous time making new friends,
and I look forward to providing her the opportunity to do
so. She is everything wonderful about basenjis, and I am
lucky to have bred her, and to own her!
+++Xi's
only son, Calypso Jon Bon Jovi, debuted as a 6mos. old pup and won 3
Reserves before going home to grow up. He came out to make the real run
to his title on April 30 and finished it May 27th, in six shows. He had
only one defeat in that short stretch, another Reserve to a Major, but
otherwise won two 2pt wins and the majors worth 3, 4 & 5 pts,
including defeating male champions. He will be exhibited abroad
to his FCI title like both his grandsires, Draken & Tux. "Thank you, Xi, for giving us such a fabulous dog with the most fantastic temperament! "
*** Her name is
pronounced "Zee", but BJ and George call
her "EXee-EXee!" and so we do too, from time to time...and
a bunch of other nicknames, naturally. After all, she IS a
basenji! ***
