AKC # HM80540202
born Dec 23, 1998
owners: Debbie & Perry Joslin
Parkland, Florida
Cody is the family Agility star!
He is a hard-headed, 1/4 African, big boy whose novice owner has gone
above and beyond the call of duty to find what it is to
make her boy feel purposeful in life. He suffers no fools
and has the usual inflated sense of royal ego. Cody takes the agility
courses
at full tilt, running at the
same breakneck pace as the Border Collies.. only he initially didn't
touch the A-frame as he went over except for the contact
points at either bottom side! and he flies across the
dogwalk, barely touching it.That lovely drama had to be changed so that
he wouldn't be disqualified on the missed contact points (but it was a
sight to see!).
Cody's
partner and running devil is Debbie Joslin. They
live in Parkland, Florida (the eastern coast, near Boca Raton,
along with Karly (Calypso Absolut
Angel), who is in both obedience & agility training. It was planned
for Karly to start agility trialing in summer of 2004, she did and has
all her basic titles won, and now competing in the Excellent level in
2005.
In Aug'03 Cody & Debbie were invited to be part of DACOF
(The Dog Agility Club of Florida) Palm Beach County Team .. obviously,
only dog and owner's with high potential are asked to participate! Cody
started competing in Agility in August 2003 in very limited trialing.
Seven months later, he is short only the AX to complete the AKC basic
(!?!) agility
titles before moving to the Master level of titles. Along the way, he
has won 15
placement ribbons (1st place x 5; 2nd place x 3; 3rd place x5; 4th
place x2). In 2003, there were only 2 basenjis to earn the AXJ title
from AKC. Cody is the first basenji to do so in 2004. Way to go,
Cody & Deb!!!
Cody
finished out 2005 by finishing his AX title on Dec.31st with a first
(and only) place- out of 19 dogs entered in his Excellent A class, Cody
was the only dog to qualify. Congratulations Debbie and Cody!
In
September 2006, Deb flew Cody and her tri b-girl, Karly, to Warwick
Rhode Island to compete in the BCOA national specialty AKC agility
trial. They shined a light, for sure! Cody ran perfectly in both
Standard and Jumpers and emerged High In Trial with so many prizes they
had to be UPS'd home to Florida! Karly got a first place in her
Standard run, and missed her Jumpers by being over course time. Cody
was the only basenji jumping at 20 inches and he and Debbie put on an
Agility Clinic for those assembled. The Joslin basenjis just had a
great day and Cody was completely "on", and it was a privilege to
finally get to witness the Calypso agility team perform in person, AND
do such an exemplary job. HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Debbie
Joslin who has dedicated herself to this sport and to her dogs. The
pleasure they got in working with her was very evident the entire time,
as was the close relationship they have forged, the three of them, in
their mutual endeavor. Go, Team!
Cody
also qualified for his Junior Courser title at Warwick, successfully
completing the two lure coursing runs of approximately 700 yards, all
the while ignoring the heavy construction equipment in use immediately
to the side of the course which caused most of the other dogs to veer
off and fail to qualify. Cody just flew after the lure, enjoying the
heck out of himself!
