| "Shooter"
is our long-awaited brindle
show boy. The litter was outstanding, and it having been Sunny's
last, she certainly ended her career with
a "bang"as one of our
favorite Moms . Ahhh - that name! Shooter got his AKC name from something I heard on tv late one night. It was some entertainment report about a Hollywood movie that was in production at the time. I heard the title, "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" and knew immediately that I had found the name of my pick-of-the-litter in the double-K's. I love the concept for a stud dog's name: 'love 'em and then leave 'em like a shot! I haven't heard anymore about the movie, but if it turns out to be even half as good as the basenji carrying its name, it will be a good one! We will also be able to have a lot of fun advertising Shooter with both his registered and call names. Shooter's personality is a delightful blend of those of his parents'. Outgoing and personable, he is sweet, loving and joyful. For all his boundless energy, if there is an available lap, Shooter is in it. True to the nature of most of Sunny's offspring, he is a kisser, and will lick your face off! So far, he hasn't shot anyone (!) - we hope he saves that sort of thing for his competition in the show ring. Hah! Both Shooter and his lookalike sissy, Kool Kendra, have been blessed with an abundance of good features: beautifully colored and patterned coats, lovely dark eyes set in deeply wrinkled wedge headpieces. They are possessed of elegant necks and lovely shoulder layback leading to level toplines. They have clean, fine limbs, resting on lovely, arched feet. The rear angulation is generous but not obscene, and provides plenty of drive for these athletic basenjis. Kendra got the 'Westernized', tighter tail curl, but Shoot's comes over nicely once and lays close to one hip. He has nothing to complain about, being beautifully dressed for success. Big thanks to Sunny and Justin for outdoing themselves at 2004's October nuptials and honeymoon. They met, and made magic in the Kentucky Bluegrass. Their offspring sport a blending of some old-old American bloodlines infused with the Avongara from the Congo. Anything Shooter & Kendra accomplish in their careers will be on the shoulders of those that built their pedigree. We are indebted... ***Kendra is at home in Wellington, FL with Luis & Oneina Abellon and Ch. Calypso Draken Dreamer (sire to Shooter's best buddy, Calypso Jon Bon Jovi, born 3 days before him). *** |

| Pictured
above @ age 3 months: Shooter & his fabulous head with his
'warrior paint'; coming along nicely for this age. A little long in
loin, but already showing off the wonderful wedge head, lovely
crest of neck, great feet & legs. We'll have to search e-bay for a
new tail, sigh. (Oh well - ONE complaint ain't all that
bad!) Pictured below: See Shooter's fabulous brindle patterning! His coat texture is like silk, but very plush. His markings look as if they have been painted on velvet. This beautiful patterning has come down through the brindles in this line, beginning with Avongara Gangura and then his son, Kibushi Get Sirius (Chris). Shooter's dam, Sunny, is a Chris daughter, and his sire is a Chris grandson. With a 'paint shop' crew like that, we could NOT go wrong, and we didn't! Each of the pups in this litter gives every impression of having been individually stenciled: Voila! (This, btw, is a true representation of his coloring/shading. His field color is a deep orangey-red, the stripes like dark chocolate.) Nice wrinkling, eh?! He's a mighty fine young fella of whom we are very proud! |

| Shooter @ 4.5 months: Note level topline
and lovely reach & drive with no overstepping underneath. Shooter
is beautifully balanced, with elegance that is not extreme - No
swan neck, no whippet rear. We will be very proud to showcase this correct young dog with sweet temperament, great looks, & all the right moves. We believe he will be a credit to the breed, and is certainly highly prized for our breeding program. Aug. 5, 2005: Shooter wins BOB & Grp 2nd-puppy at the MegaMatch of the Mountain View cluster of the Salem/Roanoke,VA circuit. Over 200 puppies of the AKC-approved breeds were entered. What a fun night! This was Shooter's first time in the ring, and he beat cousin Jon for BOB-puppy. Way to go, Stripey! Shooter has 5 points in limited showing, is certified to run ASFA lure coursing, and gained his JC title at the 2006 BCOA National Specialty trials in Warwick, Rhode Island on Sept. 18th. With the help of Calypso family member Carol Redden, Shooter will be pursuring his coursing championships, as well as entering LGRA (and perhaps NOTRA) racing trials as well. He started the run to his ASFA field championship on Nov. 12, 2006 with a 1st place at MAHA's 52nd trial, a win worth 16pts. He's on his way to multitple titles! |
