Oct. 2004: Delectable Fudge
has been bred to Bulldobas Phantom, puppies expected in
December. Please go to the Dakarai Basenjis website (see our Links
section) for more information. Susan will be traveling to Finland
to pick up a puppy for Calypso, and will be glad to assist someone in
importing a Dakarai puppy to the States, should they so desire.

From Fudge's owner, Sanna-maija Virtanen,
in Finland:
I have lived with Fudge only for a short while. The
reason I wanted to import Fudge to Finland was that her
temperament and expression reminds me so much of Barbi
(Calypso Double Dares Bulldobas) .... and really, Fudge is
as loving as her aunt! Fudge has this 'inside sparkle' that
you can see in her happy and outgoing character. When she's
wagging her tail her whole tiny body is moving - and this
girl really is a KISSING MACHINE!! I also hope that when
time comes, Fudge will leave her wonderful temperament to
her progeny. Fudge will be eyetested this year and she will
also be hiptested when she's old enough. Fudge has adjusted
here very well and she also is a very steady basenji. - Sanna-Maija

Sunny passes on fantastic brindle patterning. I was anxious
to see how that would translate another generation down,
and you can look at Fudge and see that the distinct
patterning gene is alive and well down another generation.
This time, in Fudge's face are the most fascinating circles
that frame her expression. I call them Maori-like
ceremonial markings as they so resemble those New Zealand
face paintings and tatoos!
Like her Aunt Barbi before her, more sweet temperaments in
this wondeful litter from Ch. Calypso Kilimanjaro and
Calypso Butter Brickle (full, older sister to Barbi). The
litter was all girls, a first here at Calypso, and we never
had more fun. I think I would be bereft at losing any of
them if we still didn't have sister "Tyger" here with
us... if the right show home comes along.... but in the
meantime, we have a Tiger-striped princess from this
remarkable union who is being raised by Mama Toffee and
Uncle B'Aatu, and all is well.
Fudge brings, once again, beautiful base orange and
distinct chocolate striping to the genetics she can pass
on. When breeding brindles, your color and quality of
distinct stripes is everything. That she is wonderfully
put-together: hard topline, nice short back, old-fashioned
moderate angulation... very nice qualities for S-M to work
with in the future.
I look forward to seeing how Fudge develops, and how she
shows over in Finland, and will see both my stripey girls
over there in spring 2004 which cannot come soon enough for
this doggy Grandma, let me tell you! - Susan
